Shift2Rail – la Joint Undertaking sostenuta dalla Commissione europea e dall’industria ferroviaria europea – ha pubblicato i bandi per sostenere l’innovazione nelle ferrovie europee, con un finanziamento complessivo di 170 milioni di euro. Per essere finanziati i progetti dovranno puntare contemporaneamente ad aumentare la qualità, l’affidabilità e la puntualità dei servizi ferroviari, tagliarne i costi superflui e facilitare gli spostamenti transfrontalieri.
Le call, pubblicate ufficialmente sul Participant Portal di Horizon2020, sono suddivise in due categorie, ovvero quelle dedicate ai soli membri S2R e quelle aperte anche ad altri partecipanti (imprese, università e istituti di ricerca).

- S2R-OC-IP1-01-2016 – Tools and methodologies supporting the development of next generation traction systems, and brakes
- S2R-OC-IP1-02-2016 – Technology feasibility studies supporting the development of next generation TCMS, and safe control for brakes
- S2R-OC-IP3-01-2016 – Research into new radical ways of changing trains between tracks
- S2R-OC-IP4-01-2016 – Interoperability Framework governance, ensuring its market uptake and sustainability
- S2R-OC-IP4-02-2016 – Interoperability Framework Converters
