Call: Tools and technologies for a healthy society (HORIZON-HLTH-2024-TOOL-05-two-stage)

Project concept: to develop a tool that will allow us to study new drugs with pharmacological precision and model human heart atrium diseases

Partners involved:

  • Institute of Human Genetics Polish Academy of Sciences, Poland (IHG PAS)
  • Lukasiewicz Research Network – Poznan Institute of Technology, Poland (L-PIT)
  • Ghent University, Belgium (UGENT)

Coordinator sought: preferably with experience in Extracellular Matrix compositions/hydrogels and able to develop/modify organ-on-chip chips and hardware

Partner sought and scope of the project:

1. Implementing bioprinting to achieve structural 3D organisation of the tissues

2. Using different cell populations

  • atrial and nodal Cardiomyocytes

  • Adipocytes to better mitigate tissue physiology 

3. Develop stable atrial-like extracellular matrix hydrogel system for tissue molding

4. Generate high-throughput chip-based system with pharmacological-grade drug dosing system and control

  • Partner sought: an institute/company

Further proliferation with declared the Joint Research Center (in Belgium) validation and promotion of the results.

5. Develop an AI-based software to evaluate tissue responses in situ

  • Partner confirmed: L-PIT

6. Additional to discuss:

  • Clinical data – eg. Analysis of arrythmia patterns in AF (training of the AI + developing tissue architecture)
  • Comparative studies with mouse models
